Greek Festival and Chinese Dragon Boat races

Yes, I'm back...sort of!!! I'm skipping all of July, okay? I'll get back to it, I promise!

Today Hunny finally got a weekend off so I gave him the rundown of events going on this weekend on the island. We decided on the Greek Festival. Yes, in Hawaii! There were also Chinese Dragon Boat races at the same location that I wanted to watch as well. I joked with Rex about how we were hitting 2 cultures at once--Greek and Chinese! There was a bon dance tonight that I wanted to go to as well, and that would have put us at 3 cultures! (Japanese) I had an epiphany when I looked the pics from the local bon dances and realized that Katie (chopsticks) had posted about taking her girls to one in Japan. I'm not in Japan but apparently bon dances are popular here too! We have a few more weekends so hopefully we'll make it to one!

While trying to find parking (which was NO easy task, we ended up parking at the mall!) I caught a glimpse of the Chinese Dragon Boat Races.

It was so cool! I don't think I could do it, my arms would fall off but these guys did great! (and it was coed BTW!) While we were there the mayor showed up (Mufi!) but we didn't stick around to see him, we had baklava to find!!

Aren't the boats so cool? Inside their mouths appeared to be food, maybe it's an offering or something in hopes of winning?

After watching the races, we headed to the Greek Festival. Can I just say it made my day that it was free? FREE? Haha, I LOVE bargains!! We got there and the smell was just overwhelming...in a good way! We got there about 10 mins before the dancing performances so we hurried into the pavilion and watched some Greek dances. Princess was mesmerized and even Little Man enjoyed it, for a little bit HAHA! As soon as it was over we knew what was next. GYROS. GREEK SALAD. maybe a beer or some Greek wine? So we headed into the courtyard and he went to get the salads while I tackled the gyro line. The kids messed with a koi pond and didn't look once for where we were, LOL. Luckily they didn't fall in, because I didn't want to lose my place in line!

We hung out and listened to some cool Greek music and just people watched, which is always enjoyable in Hawaii, LOL. The food was fantastic and makes me want to go down again tomorrow! On our way out, I hit the pastries line and couldn't decide (or pronounce!) most of the pastries so I paid $10 for the Baklava Bento. Yes, bento!! Only in Hawaii, right?
