North Shore DayWhat's that I see?? It's beginning of BIG SURF SEASON! We hopped in the car this morning and headed north. Not too far north, mind you, LOL. The island isn't very big!
Once we got up to the North Shore, traffic showed up, seems we weren't the only ones out to see the waves and surfers!
We stopped by Shark's Cove/3 Tables first, since it was the first place we could find a place to park, LOL!! No surfing here, as you'll see from the video, the surf was way to rough and frothy. You really can't tell from the video, but those waves are about 6'+ or so and were really tossing around.
After this quick stop, we went to
Sunset Beach, which seemed to be where the action was (and Waimea Bay as well, but Waimea was too packed to even get close.) First thing that makes me laugh are the signs up (and there were more, I only took a pic of 2) and it's because I love the Dangerous Shorebreak one. It's a picture of a dude breaking his neck. Nice......... LMAO!!!!!!
After this quick stop, we went to
Oh but first, on our way back to Sunset Beach (we doubled around) we stopped by Ted's Bakery. I wanted a piece of Chocolate Haupia pie! OMG, it was my first time trying it and I'm in love!! Basically it was like a chocolate creme pie, with chocolate pudding on the bottom, haupia in the middle and lots of whipped cream on top, plus a flaky crust of course! What's haupia? It's like a coconut pudding but more the texture of a jello-ish pudding, LOL. It has a jiggle to it that pudding doesn't have. And it's coconut flavored, LOL. The kids loved the pie too, especially Little Man! He finished it up later, while we had lunch.
So back at the Sunset...Hunny got out of the car (I chilled with the kids w/the pie!) and there were plenty of surfers out there. I didn't bring my camera and lens, so I didn't take pics of the actual surfers.
On our way back home, we stopped at our favorite shrimp shack, Big Wave in Hale'iwa. We had the usual, garlic shrimp, salad and sticky rice! Then we drove back thru the middle of the island (and the pineapple fields, as shown in the picture) and went home and crashed!
